FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Do you offer treatment to children and youth with mental health or other functional challenges?
A: No, as the focus of my private practice is on adults, ages 18 and older.

Q: Do you offer services to individuals involved in motor vehicle accidents who have coverage for OT services through auto insurance?
A: Unfortunately, my private practice is not set up for providing services through auto insurance.

Q: What is the difference between Occupational Therapy and Home Organization Coaching and how do I know which service is best for me?
A: My Occupational Therapy Services are for individuals with mental health or other chronic health issues, are delivered through a therapeutic relationship, and may address various different functional goals, from improving sleep, to returning to work, to following daily routines. Occupational Therapy Services use psychoeducational and psychotherapeutic techniques, e.g. approaches from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and emphasizes teaching clients the skills required to cope with symptoms and challenges.
Home Organization Coaching is most suited for busy professionals who are seeking time-limited help with specific goals related to the organization and functioning of their home environment, for example, setting up a home office. Home Organization Coaching is a collaborative, goal-oriented modality that I use as an occupational therapist that is hands-on, action-oriented, and environment-specific that targets problem areas in the home that impact daily functioning. For further clarification on which services may be the best fit for you, please contact me.
Q: Are you a professional organizer?

A: While I am not a member of the Professional Organizers in Canada or another association, I am a regulated healthcare professional and have extensive training in and experience working with individuals with mental health and chronic health conditions, energy, motivation, attention, time management and organizational difficulties. My ongoing professional development is focused on decluttering and organizational strategies.
Q: How many sessions are typically recommended?

A: The number and frequency of Occupational Therapy treatment sessions or Home Organization Coaching sessions are influenced by factors, such as the nature and scope of the goals and insurance coverage and budget. The Initial OT Assessment and the Initial Home Organization Consultation will inform recommendations for the number and frequency of sessions. It is always up to the client to decide if they would like to proceed with treatment or coaching sessions.

Q: What do I need to know about in-person vs. virtual service delivery?

A: Virtual sessions are offered to clients within Ontario via phone or through a private and secure video platform, called "Jane" (jane.app). In order to use the platform, you will need a tablet, smartphone, or computer with an Internet connection, a microphone, and a web cam (optional). Benefits of virtual services may include convenience, flexibility, and access for clients in rural or remote areas. In-person sessions are offered only to clients in the Ottawa, Ontario area and when the treatment plan is best carried out in person. I typically meet with clients at their home, and home organization coaching sessions are exclusively held in the home. Sometimes, Occupational Therapy sessions may involve meeting somewhere in the community; for example, at a fitness centre for a tour as a way of working towards a goal of exercising in a social setting.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: In most cases, cancelling a session less than 24 hours prior to a scheduled session is subject to a fee of 50%. For example, for a Occupational Therapy Treatment Session of $150, the late cancellation fee would be $75. Clients are encouraged to contact me well in advance if they need to cancel or re-book a session. In emergency situations or circumstances beyond control, it is possible that the late cancellation fee may be waived.
